You know Bristol isn’t exactly innocent either. Just sayin.I just read a post on E! News that is talking about how stars are ripping Bristol Palin about her views that she publicly expressed on the president’s remark about gay marriage. (Link)
I will not be including my views about the issue in this post. That is NOT what this is about.
BUT- If…
But she did risk her own life to save him, though.Wow…Apparently, people who think Fringe is not a love story about Peter and Olivia still exist. Wake up! Fringe is the epic love story of Peter and Olivia, whose love for each other changes the fate of universes dramatically, presented in the form of a sci-fi. Love and universes…it’s a sci-fi romance.People can fully enjoy Fringe only if they like both aspects of it. If you don’t like the love story of Peter and Olivia, you can still watch the show for its sci-fi elements; but in that case you will never be able to enjoy the show as much as people who love both aspects of it.
If you don’t like the main characters much, you can watch the show for the stories of secondary characters; but only if you accept that you will never be satisfied, simply because their stories are not that much important. It’s not us who decide or say this, it’s the writers and producers. What did you think the word “secondary” mean?
…I don’t hate it, it just seems kinda superfluous and formulaic in that “man and woman work together in a procedural drama so inevitably fall in love” trope. I don’t care for it because it isn’t anything different. It’s been done before a million times and doesn’t stand out at all even with the sci-fi component because that’s been done before too. If anything, it’s detrimental to Olivia’s character. She didn’t stand out much before as a stock Strong Female Character without much substance, but how much of herself she gives up for Peter (who gives up nothing) only serves to weaken the character.
Fringe is arguably Walter’s story, his path of redemption from scientist playing God and undoing reality with his hubris to a humbled atoner using his knowledge to fix his mistakes and stop others from doing what he did. But I think the writers ran out of ideas for what to do with Peter and Olivia and just decided to go with the tried and tested “man and woman work together in a procedural drama so inevitably fall in love” trope.
Peter and Olivia aren’t epic, they’re auxiliary, for people who need shipping to enjoy something. (Oh, and I have never needed shipping to fully enjoy anything, let alone Fringe.) It’s the Jim Belushi of entertainment - I know it’s there, it exists for some reason, people apparently really enjoy it somehow or there wouldn’t be a market for it, but it does nothing for me and the less it appears in my favorite fandoms the better.
Scientists playing God, their hubris, the destruction they cause and their path to redemption are as much of a TV trope in science fiction as love stories are in most genres. There is nothing original about it. If anything, Walter’s story was special because of his love story with Peter - Oh look! Another love story! - which allowed him to more or less redeem himself.
I agree that the writers ran out of ideas, but it wasn’t about Peter and Olivia, it was about Walter. Once Walter reached a modicum of independence and redemption, they didn’t know, how to continue the story, which is why they had to undo his character development and rehash his redemption arc all over again.
Peter gives up nothing? Peter not only gave up his universe for Olivia, but he sacrificed his very existence for her. What did Olivia give up for him? Absolutely nothing. Her memories from seasons 1-3 weren’t a voluntary thing, she just decided not to fight them and it wasn’t for Peter either, it was because she was happier with those memories. She didn’t expect to get him, she thought she had lost him. She didn’t give up anything for him at all, she did it for herself. Probably the only time she had some agency as a character.
Is it me or does this photo not look like Anna at all? I just noticed it just now. It’s like the photo editor gave Anna a nose job!!
Im sorry, peter gave up nothing? He gave up his home and his real parents to be with our Walter and OLIVIA. He unwillingly stopped existing to save Olivia from a death in the future. He was willing to ‘break it off’ with amberOlivia to really be sure she is the ‘one’ So yeah Peter gave up a lot of stuff for Olivia. Btw, nobody forced Olivia to give up her memories so enough with this feminist crap. If peter had done the same, give up his memories for Olivia, I’m sure most of you would be happy. I gotta say, I love how people act like ‘strong female leads’ aren’t allowed to date or love another human being and do stuff for them without criticizing them and calling them weak. I mean some tv shows have men dating/having sex with the ‘flavor’ of the month and nobody bats an eyelash but when a woman has a 4 year rocky relationship with a guy she CLEARLY cares about, people call her weak and act like Peter is to blame. But I forgot, strong female lead=not caring about anybody else but herself. Btw, didn’t people WANT Olivia to get her memories back?????? not sure why people would honestly accept Olivia, the one we have come to know for the last 3 years, to be gone forever.Wow…Apparently, people who think Fringe is not a love story about Peter and Olivia still exist. Wake up! Fringe is the epic love story of Peter and Olivia, whose love for each other changes the fate of universes…
Introverts, in contrast, may have strong social skills and enjoy parties and business meetings, but after a while wish they were home in their pajamas. They prefer to devote their social energies to close friends, colleagues, and family. They listen more than they talk, think before they speak, and often feel as if they express themselves better in writing than in conversation. They tend to dislike conflict. Many have a horror of small talk, but enjoy deep discussions.
